| | | Re: A circuit of Rydal Water & Grasmere --- Update The book shop on the corner in Grasmere has had it's fair amount of money from me, as has the Heaton Cooper studio just across from it, in fact I now purchase all of my art materials from them.
Jayne who was sitting next to me when I brought the pics on your site up I think immediately got a hankering for a 'Thunder & Lightening' ice cream from the shop you were obviously enjoying your ice creams from!
It is a shame that the cave at Rydal is now gated off. I have loved that cave from when I was a child, playing in there and in Rydal Woods. The cave has been gated off for quite a few months now and the water inside had all but submerged the whole interior when we were there a couple of months back.
One of our favourite little afternoon strolls when up in the lakes is the circular route along the coffin trail section from Rydal to Grasmere and then back along around Grasmere and the terrace route, ending in Rydal Woods.
Enjoyed the pictures of your walk and feel like we would like to jump in the car now and get up there! |

I did a similar walk a couple of years ago with some friends when we were staying near Ambleside (a very wet week in October 2005!), although we kept to a fairly flat route rather than go up to the tarn. The cave was open then, this is a photo I took from the inside looking out:
You have inspired me to finally get my act together and add a few Lake District photos to my web site, something I've meant to do for ages but never got round to. Sadly my last three or four holidays there have been very wet, so there's only a few photos spread over six walks. Nowhere near as high in quality as your photos, the 'Alternative Fairfield Horseshoe' is the only one I'm reasonably satisfied with (that was on a rare nice day!). | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
