| | | Re: New Forest Camping We used a Forestry Commission site in Ashurst last year - was very friendly with direct access to the forest - often waking up to ponys and cows outside the tent. Good toilet and shower block too. Only trouble is, think that might have refurbished and put the prices up this year???.. |

Have used this one in the past;
Hollands Wood Caravan & Camping Site. Was quite good.

| | | Re: New Forest Camping I have just come back (Last Week-end) from the New Forest and stayed for one night in both. I thought both were great places to camp for the reasons stated already. I think it was still the peak season as the prices where between £14-£16 per night for two people at both places. Ashhurst closes on the 25th of September but red shoots is open all year round. If your stuck finding a place, then try the Tourist Info place in Lyndhurst as the young guy working there was extremely helpful, very knowledgable and provided a list of campsites suitable for everyones needs. |

| | | Re: New Forest Camping Ashhurst was fine but ask for a quiet area, most are partying groups esp.weekends
Also ideal if you like railways Take a good look on a map we missed the railwayline
Site is handy for the reptile centre and has a pub with garden "next door"

| | | Re: New Forest Camping True about the railway and the A35 is near by too! But it still was a good place to go for long walks from. I found Matley Wood (Map ref:SU 33 07) a great wood to spend a bit of time in with really intruiging Holly shrubs and a massive Oak Tree (which i measured) in a clearing. |

| | | Re: New Forest Camping I wish I had read the tips about the railway before I set off! We wondered why there was a big space so jumped straight in it....I was half expecting it to be where the horses slept or like to congregate but even they were put off by the trains!!!!

Red Shoot Camping Park - New Forest | This is, indeed, an excellent location. I've recently been photographing the New Forest ponies at a location know locally as Little Scotland which is just half a mile from the camp site, and the area has a wide diversity of wild life. I've never used the camp site as I can reach the location by car in twenty minutes, but I can vouch for the pub!

| | | Re: New Forest Camping Me and my girlfriend have stayed at Ashurst a couple of times now, and would recommend it to anyone.
Good pub(s) within 1/2 mile, train station to anywhere you'd like to go, for cycle hire etc..., relatively cheap - Ashurst is in our opinion, the best place to stay to do a complete New Forest experience.
Plus - the Otter and Owl centre (its not bad you know) is a lovely short (cross country) walk from the site.
Cheers.
