A Newbie

I've just found this site and hope that I can be a regular contributor. I do my walking mainly in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and The Howgill fells.

I'm not altogether sure what I'm allowed to do or not do here. As I say I do most of my walking in the North of England. I have a website but am I allowed to post a link to it so that others may see?
Any help would be most welcome.

Dave

Have a look at the icons at the top of your screen. One of them is for a list of the rules.

Keith.

Re: A Newbie

Hi Dave - I love the Lake District too. My husband and son (aged 11) have just come back from a few days away and they did Red Pike + Haystacks (I love Buttermere and we often do Mosedale around the Christmas period - in fact that's where I saw my first and only Stoat in ermine) they also did Great Gable because my son wanted to get a photo of himself at the memorial at the top for something he's been asked to do at the school he starts in September.

I've not been proper walking in ages and really miss it.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to WAB, I hope you enjoy the site! I think that the rule about links to your own personal web site is that you can only put such a link in your signature - apparently, the site administrators have had problems with external links in the past.

To answer your next question - you are allowed to add a signature once you've posted 25 times!

I love walking in the Lake District too - only been there once so far this year, for a week at Keswick in May, and I'm keen to go again soon. I generally visit once or twice a year for holidays. I've been to the Yorkshire Dales and the Howgill Fells too (my mother was evacuated to the Howgills from Liverpool during WWII). Sadly my knees aren't too good, so I'm very slow and very ungainly now on steep descents - still, I'm finding there are some great walks on some of the lower fells, you don't have to always visit the highest peaks.

I look forward to seeing your posts and photos,

Pete

Re: A Newbie

OK guys, I think I know the rules now. I'll let you know what walks I do in the meantime then when I'm allowed I'll add a signature. Thanks for all your help.

Dave

ps....I have put a couple of pics in the Gallery for now

Re: A Newbie

Hi again Dave,

Nice photos! Funny you put one up of Beacon Tarn from Beacon Fell - both were mentioned on the 'Britain's Favourite View' program last Sunday, and Karlos78 has posted a photo (two or three before yours in the same gallery) of the Coniston range which I think must have been taken from around that area. I went by the tarn when I walked the Cumbria Way a couple of years ago.

Incidentally, now you've loaded your photos, you can include them in a post (click on 'Wild About Britain Video guides' near the top right of the page to see a video on how to do this, but basically all you have to do is 'cut and paste' the 'Forum Image Code' from below your image in the gallery).

Pete
