| | | The Great Trespass I've been struck by the lack of celebration of the anniversary of the great trespass on Kinder Scout. The event that inspired the national parks and the start of freedom to roam. Kinder Trespass - Homeoe::oeoeoeoe
What are any of us doing to commemorate this important event?
Myseld, I'm going to climb it at last! |

Hope you have a great time going up Kinder Scout! I have fond memories of walking there 30 years ago - on one occasion my bright orange waterproofs were black when I came back, thanks to some of the peat hags up there.
I think the Ramblers have done a fair bit to publicise the 75th Anniversary of the Mass Trespass. There was something in their magazine about it, and I think they held a sort of re-enactment - I found this on the web: Kinder Trespass - Home ::
EDIT: Sorry, just spotted that is the same link as in your post! Bet you used Google too!
I seem to remember that one of the men who were imprisoned at the Mass Trespass turned up at the celebration events and caused a bit of disturbance, claiming that he was quite innocent and had been wrongly imprisoned. The Chief Constable or whoever granted him a free pardon (sorry, that's almost certainly not the correct legal term, but I can't find the story now on the internet).

| | | Re: The Great Trespass Yes, there are limited sources! Yes, the Ramblers have done their bit but I'm surprised at the lack of general publicity or activity. As I mentioned, this was a critical point for right to roam and the national parks ... yet most of us seem not to be too bothered ... when you consider some of the trivial anniverseries that are celebrated nowadays!
Cheers, Paul
PS: I don't include le 14 Juillet as trivial! Coincidental, though! Quote:
