| | | Flip Video Cam Been looking at getting one of these Flip Cam-Recorder for my holidays and the such. However, on my Nikon P50, there is a video mode, not bad. But, just wondering if the Flip is much better than the P50. |

| | | Re: Flip Video Cam I see no comments made on this thread, oh well . In the end, I've decided keep with the Nikon P50 and convert that in a bike cam. I've made a do-it-yourself cycle camera mount using 2" x 3/4" bolt with a wing nut and disused light clamp.
I would of liked to purchased a Flip cam, but seems too good to use as bike camera cam. So, the Nikon P50 seems pretty much up to the job.
Anyway, thanks for the interest show and be putting the bike cam clamp on a trial. |

| | | Re: Flip Video Cam Hi Foxy,
Can't help with any thoughts on the Flip, but are you aware of the Veho "Muvi" & "Atom" range of video cams? Veho - Shop Items
These things are seriously small, and can be obtained with what is called the extreme sports pack which contains all manner of fixings to enable the camera to be helmet or bike mounted.
There are several videos of footage from these on the net,
(Typical one here: - http://vimeo.com/13003222) and quality seems very good indeed (Albeit I don't think they would support large screen viewing sizes).
Might be worth considering - depending on your intended use for the footage. (Would be great for uploading to the likes of U-Tube etc.).
I've been thrown off my bike, and over the bonnet of a vehicle being driven by someone who, as I was coming round on the tarmac said the immortal words "I never saw you" - despite the fact that I had a fluorescent yellow jacket & hi-viz helmet on at the time.
(Fortunately, I wasn't seriously injured, just cuts and grazes, but my bike had £800.00+ damage. Luckily the accident had witnesses, and I won a compensation case for injury and bike damage. However, because of what the driver told her solicitors, I would have struggled for evidence without the witness statements).
With a few other very near misses with inconsiderate drivers over the years, I've been thinking of getting one of these myself, to be used as a helmet cam. - It would be hard to dispute video evidence should the unthinkable happen again at some time in the future.
Regards,
Mike.

| | | Re: Flip Video Cam Thanks for the link, LL. I may consider that in the near future. Yes, it is good idea to use the cam for evidence back-up.
I have a Action ATK 2K and may use that for cycling to work and back, which has a hour's recording.
There was a article on a on-line newsweb that a Manchester cyclist was involved in a road-rage incident and had a helmet cam. Driver never noticed the cam, but he was recorded and reported to the police. It does seem more and more cyclist's are getting armed with these bike cam's.
I saw a driver go through a red-light, which is a crazy thing to do.
Last night, I was cycling back home from work, about 11:30pm, on the A19 cycle-path and some driver was beeping his horn, probably at me. But, I can't see the reason for doing such a thing, probably got a cheap kick of it.
However, I have the bike cam mount all set up and hope to be using it at the week-end, cycling on the local Castle Eden walk-way (cyclist allowed ) and I have bike ping-bell . |

| | | Re: Flip Video Cam Thanks tom00_uk for that info. But due to shortage of cash, I will stick with the Nikon P50. I've rigged up a diy camera mount on the bike, just need a simple ball and socket adaptor from Jessops. That way, I can video myself on my forthcoming Coast to Coast whilst cycling in motion downhill from Tan Hill . |
