Martin | Cheers Martin, its a 300mm I S 2.8 lens, on a tripod (about time I use it)
I really begining to like the 7D. be interesting when I try it with the 100mm - 400mm pump at video.

Colin

| | | Re: First attempt a video with a canon 7D (Nuthatch) I've been playing with my 7D as well in order to update my post here here but weather has not been that good also been very busy the footage I've had a play with so far has been excellent and part from the 12 min limit I think it blows away my old XL2 it's just a case of getting into a routine setting it up and I really need a follow focus rig as focusing is a real pain on standard lenses to get spot on when moving from one subject to the next.
The setting I'm now using are
Picture Style standard
Sharpness all the way down
Contrast all the way down
Saturation one click down
Colour Tone in the middle
This then allows you to colour grade from a flat starting point.

Basically you set your focus at point A make a mark with a white board marker then adjust to point B then make another mark then when you move focus from point A to B you just rotate from one marker to the other other wise by manually focusing it's a bit hit and miss where your end point is on the second point you want to go to. You can auto focus on the first point of course by switching it to still camera mode and use the AF. image here follow focus - Google Images

| | | Re: First attempt a video with a canon 7D (Nuthatch) Had another attempt at video with the 7D with 300mm + 2 X TC. Pretty pleased though hand held video at 600mm is pretty tricky , time for a tripod me thinks. YouTube - Grey Squirrel - Sciurus carolinensis
