Here's a pic of the museum - a lay building of some mystery - it was never a church [it looks like one] but the floor is 4ft below the current street level [note low door on right] and the [so called 'cat'] pit at the rear decends another 8-10ft lower down to about sea's high tide mark in harbour opposite and in the intervening 1000 years since built sea level has dropped markedly along the English south coast  |

Further to my earlier posts apparently George Smith - a Brighton showman - invented the movie close-up, cross-cutting and other techniques common now to movie/ video making early in 1900s - all revealed in BBC's "Coast" series at BBC iPlayer - Coast: Series 4: Whitstable to Isle of Wight
