| | | dvd maker forum? Hi - I've bought a Kworld dvdmaker kit [hard/software] to convert my old Sony 8 vids to dvd or avi files to play/edit on the laptop etc. Can anyone suggest suitable/ expert forums where I can post some queries? TIA |

| | | Re: dvd maker forum? Thanks Jim - I've looked at the site and knowledgeable it is but I'm dozens of layers below the point of being permitted to ask a newbie query when I understand the terminology I may persist but it's probably easier to get refund from the retailer. |

| | | Re: dvd maker forum? Hi Jim - bottled out for now. Was in the new Maplins store in Epsom at 10am sharp to buy an opening promotion YouTube - Seagate 1.5Tb external HDD
Salesman wanted me to buy an externally powered USB hub for my unresponsive Kworld DVD-Maker kit but I reject his advise and got a refund so only paid £45 for new HD I'll sort the Sony-8 to DVD later |

| | | Re: dvd maker forum? When I've dabbled with encoding video I quicky discovered that it's a 40 gallon drum full or worms! I found people on the Doom9 forum very helpfull, but you can quickly get bogged down with technicalities.
Part of the problem seems to be that a media file (eg avi) is only a container for an audio stream and a video stream, both of which can be of several different formats. This means that there can be many different permutations of the internal data streams, and that files with the avi extension can have differing internals. Having said that, the common avi file containing a mp3 audio stream and a DivX video stream is the nearest to a current standard. As DivX is a proprietry format, the free compatible Xvid is often preferred as an alternative.

| | | Re: dvd maker forum? Thanks Jim for the info - I think I get the idea.
I see on E-bay virtually identical dongles to my ex Kworld DVDMaker kit for £5 eg £30 less than I paid Maplin [ok Maplin top-price anyway] but would they work? Suppose at that price worth a chance | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
