| | | Damaging Winds in the Outer Hebriedes For the last 24 hours we have had winds between 60 and 70 mph, it has rained no stop for days. The crofters are so worried about the Lambing as the ground is afloat. The rain has been the worst over autumn and winter for decades.
I woke up this morning accompanied by the continous roar of the wind and all mine and my neighbours daffs have shrivelled up and collapsed....they have only just began to flower up here. I am trying to get our veg patch ready, I am going to sow all the seeds in doors and plant out in a couple months as they will never survive this.
Whats it like on the main land, I know they are forecasting snow, have you had the winds and rain.
I hope it changes soon for the economy of the islands both for the crofters and the tourist trade!
I have't been able to get out with my camera for two weekends running on benbecula nor in my lunch at Stornoway.....I am suffering withdrawl symptoms!
Deb

| | | Re: Damaging Winds in the Outer Hebriedes Goodness, make sure you are well strapped down, Deb. Hope you've got plenty of chocolate and red wine in the stockpile.
Here in the home counties it's gusting quite hard today, so that the magpies are having problems getting twigs up to their nest site in the swaying fir tee, but nothing like you are experiencing. It is getting a bit colder, and we're forecast snow showers for tomorrow. |

cold wet with wind chill on top
I hope there is a change soon good luck

| | | Re: Damaging Winds in the Outer Hebriedes We have had wind, rain, sleet, hail and sunshine this morning - the wildlife has been keeping a low profile, we have had our morning ramble and are now battening down the hatches for the evening.

| | | Re: Damaging Winds in the Outer Hebriedes I was driving home from work last night and the clouds were amazing. The sky was completely black for a while over to the NE of Gloucester contrasting with the setting sun over to the west which was illuminating sheets of hail as 'curtains' against the black sky. No camera! Dashed home to pick up camera and went out again, but by then the sun had disappeared behind some clouds and spectacle over. As a small consolation, about half an hour later we had a reasonable lightning display for about twenty minutes which is always odd to me when it is this cold. Strong, gusty winds all through the night and into today, but nothing too bad.
Anyway, quite interesting for a bit!!
