| | | Snow to return I was listening to the radio 4 weather tonight and the BBC are predicting a weather front coming from the Artic bringing sleet and snow for most of the country for early next week.
So just when we thought spring was here winter looks like it is to return.
I wonder what kind of effect all this is going to have on the plants, animals and birds, given the mild weather we have had over the last few weeks must have convinced them that spring had come early |

| | | Re: Snow to return I'm going to miss the sunshine, I know that much. It's been gorgeous.
I don't think nature will be too adversely effected, although it may put back growth by a few weeks.

| | | Re: Snow to return Yes,I'd heard this too. And there we all were, thinking we'd turned the corner and spring had got to grips with the year.
Hope it doesn't last and all the newly emerged invertebrates/insects/ eggs and flowers make it through the cold period.

| | | Re: Snow to return Enjoy it Boddie - tho sunday is supposed to be down to single figures maybe the snow won't reach this far south? We are off to the Cairngorms on Tues where there is definitely going to be snow - there were five foot drifts beside the mountain road there this time last year - sounds like it might be the same again! We shall wrap up warm and enjoy!

| | | Re: Snow to return Earlier today BBC radio 5 news mentioned possible problems for butterflies caused by this cold snap. They didn't go into any detail.
It's not great timing after a nice warm and sunny few days. In the last couple of days, in particular, I've seen more insect activity.
It looks like frosts on Sunday and Monday night. The met office has severe weather warnings for Sunday and Monday (for snow). Met Office: UK: Severe weather warnings |

| | | Re: Snow to return I hope my tadpoles survive they only hatched the other day. I think I will scoop them into a bucket until the cold snap has past.
Maybe the frogs that were mating on Wednesday Knew something as nothing came of the mate. The birds have been eating more as they always do before bad weather is forecast |

| | | Re: Snow to return I love the snow and the only thing I really don't like about being in the South West is we don't get proper winters like we did in Northumberland. But I am a bit worried about my birds, but we've got a massive tub of meal worms and plenty of other good stuff for them (I swear our bird table is the reason they are all in perfect feather!). Mind you mum and I did seriously discussing weather it would be feasible to bring any early Hedgehogs in out of the cold....

| | | Re: Snow to return We had a light snow shower and some heavy hail in the night during our trip to Edale this weekend. For anybody that has not been I would recommend it. Pete and I had some good walks although the weather was not really conducive to great photography (I do like this candid that I managed to get though Andrew Hunter Photography: Showcased: Rambler)
It rained both nights but the site had good drainage and it was not too much of a problem. We met some fell runners last night and what a nice bunch of people they were (maybe a Northern thing?) but very talkative and genuine and it turned out a couple of them were a bit good too - a couple of British Champions by all accounts |

Thank goodness the snow has now stopped as it was settling.

| | | Re: Snow to return It was sunny with strong winds until lunch (good for my WeBS survey), but within an hour of returning home the sky darkened with heavy squally shower, that cleared to blue skies again for most of the remainder of daylight.
Will there be whiteness when I open the curtains tomorrow? Hope not + hope my tadpoles can survive ok. |
