| | | Black Ice Cyclist's, do beware of the dreaded Black Ice, really nasty stuff. I had just finished a 10 hour shift and looking forward to a early bed, not feeling too good with a sore throat and looking forward to a three day break in Whitby this week.
BUT, going home on a side road corner, I felt the bike slipping to one side under me and could not stop myself. Next I hit the deck (road) with such force, I was dazed for a minute or two, shock is the word and I was on the middle of the road, lucky no cars around at that time. Bruised left hand, cut my upper lip, grazed chin and upper chin bone, which is still swollen.
I remember seeing a old woman peeping out of her window, so I must hit the deck loudly, but I picked myself up and walked for a little while to come round.
I went to A&E for a clean up and check nothing broken, x-ray was fine, teeth ok.
Good start to the New Year Anyway, rang Whitby hostel and explained everything, so looking like the end of the week, giving me a little time to heal and get over this sore throat and bad chest. |

| | | Re: Black Ice Oooo not nice! Glad you're OK though. Did you have a helmet on?
I decided not to cycle today, it's not so bad on the main roads, but the side roads are a killer, I nearly lost the car today going slowly round a bend, saw some frost but didn't realise the ice!
Hope you make a full recovery soon

| | | Re: Black Ice Cheers for that, I did have a helmet on, makes sense. Although, I feel ok in myself, my right hand-side of face is still puffed and eye is beginning to blacken. Looking like Rocky I'm trying to keep my chin and the nurses and doctors were great at the A&E, saying that cycling does have it's danger's and do get cyclist's coming into A&E with injuries of some types.
I need to more careful next on the corners and I can only down to bad luck on my behalf. I'm really lucky not to have a car behind/front of me, I dread to think of would of happen.
Anyway, I have a week off from work, hoping to get to Whitby later this week. I'll see until then. |

| | | Re: Black Ice Glad you are OK, Foxy.
Haven't had the bike out for ages and was thinking of getting it out soon.
Your post is a very timely reminder.
All the best for a speedy recovery.

| | | Re: Black Ice Cheers all. Injury is not so bad now and healing up nicely, mind you the eye did puff up a little, but that was the bruising coming out I guess.
I've changed tyres, got a new helmet, just in case the old one got hit. So, I'm off to Whitby for a few days walking, which will be a tonic for me.
Cheers again. |
