| | | Fen Blow In the Fens we have a phenomenon where the wind whips up dry Peat particularly when it has been dry for a while creating like a sand storm.
People have been killed by it. I have seen at 4 today driving my Train from Peterborough to Cambridge. Don't leave your washing out :-0 |

| | | Re: Fen Blow I have seen sand blow near Scarborough and down in Shropshire, but not as bad as that.
Read "The Grapes of Wrath" for description of American dust storms.

You would think if it was a fairly common occurrence that we'd have seen something about it on a documentary/nature programme etc.....maybe?

| | | Re: Fen Blow Yes ive found it odd too. I remember this in the local paper.. File:Little thetford tornado may 2005.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fens reminds me of the American Mid West.. Big Skies, sparse population,Freight trains...
Unique Wildlife too. A mecca for Berwick and Whooper Swans, Lapwings fill the farmland,Barn Owls cruise along the road boundaries... |

| | | Re: Fen Blow I have seen and felt it from overworking arable fenland. Does this also happen naturally?
The problem here in The Far north is Volcanic ash again. It`s all over everything, it`s in our house, on the washing you name it. Volcanic ash is there.
There is a visible haze in the air just now. Maybe it will be good for the ground.
