| | | Lenticular cloud Hi
My partner spotted this lenticular cloud this evening, hanging in the sky and rushed in for the camera. Thought we'd share them.
Not sure how common they are but being so close to Swondonia, I'm guessing we're more likely to see them than some.

These are the ones blamed for some UFO sightings I believe |

I only saw it after it had broken up slightly, but she managed to get it at just the right time. |

| | | Re: Lenticular cloud Great images, Crumble.
They're also associated with the Helm wind and appear off the western edge of the Pennines over the upper Eden valley in Cumbria. I've yet to see one. |

| | | Re: Lenticular cloud I'm guessing they are quite rare then ?
The weather is being a bit blowy and damp at the mo but obviously things just came together at the right time.
We try to keep our cameras handy for just such occasions. |

| | | Re: Lenticular cloud Thank you Deb. I can only pass all credit for the photo (and the sighting) to my girlfriend, who can spot a camoufaged lizard sat amongst ivy on a stone wall from 10 yards while walking !
I've only ever seen photos of these clouds as UFO sightings, as suggested by ukwildlifeo. But it seems we're well positioned for them. |

| | | Re: Lenticular cloud The best image of lenticular clouds I've seen!
I understand they're a feature of hill country (I've seen them in the Cairngorms).
There are explanations on the net: Lenticular Clouds
