| | | Re: Damage from the storm The odd tree down and road blocked but I suspect that most 'iffy' trees &c have been brought down earlier in the autumn/winter.
There's a bright side to this - there are a lot of insects that overwinter in the tree canopy and seldom get observed - while you have the chance, go and look around in the *top* of the tree!

I trust they will recover. |

Are most of those combs empty? | Adding another view which shows bottom left a lot of interest in a broken off lump of comb: I understand the white cells contain larvae, the yellow ones pollen and the black ones honey. Cells sealed with wax contain pupating larvae. Its hard to tell from the photos though the aroma of honey wafting on the breeze was quite heady. |

Fascinating that there might be pupae already - or am I just ignorant of honeybee phenology? Quote:
