Severe Weather and Job Loses

The economy within the Western Isles is very fragile at the best of times but the recent severe weather has now resulted in job loses in the shellfish industry see Link:

If this weather keeps up there could be problems with the lambing as many of the winter grazing fields have been flooded. The water table is so high that any amount of rain is just running over the top. We can only keep our fingers cross for some dry days in the next few months....

I know the highlands of Scotland have also had severe weather, is anywhere else facing economic and environmental problems due to the severe weather?

I think lots of sheep farmers will be a bit worried if the present wet weather continues with the main lambing season just around the corner.
The ground here in the midlands has now gone well beyond saturation point, its a long time since things were so wet and more heavy rain and gales are forecast for tomorrow night/Thursday morning
