There's still red squirrels at Killhope, and also at Allenheads. But just grey squirrels in upper Weardale - just 5 or 6 miles from Killhope. Many of the conifers at Killhope have gone - The entire wood across the road from the Lead Mining museum. The conifers behind the museum are still there though.

It's also a bit sad the trees across the road have gone as well. The day we were up there we saw quite a few crossbills across the road.

They are still clearing the timber. They brought machines and felled the whole woodland. Changed the feel of the whole area. I'm presuming the wildlife will have moved into the woods on the other side of the road, but it's a smaller area. Very sad.
