| | | Re: Snow Gee, what's this fascination with snow? Snow, for us, is a right royal pain in the ass! Delivery people I mean. Still, it has a fatal fascination. When you've spent your day in the lower reaches of the hills around GlenShee or Aberfeldy and GlenLyon, on roads in certain parts of the high ground in Fife and Perthshire or Angus, trying to force a thirteen and a half tonner up farm roads and tracks or 'B' roads to get to folk who are depending on that delivery; then,it's very satisfying to have got in and out without any major disaster and done the job. Stayed on the road and got back home without landing in a ditch or hung up halfway down a slope with nothing holding you in place but a stand of very fragile looking birches and scrub. I saw this happen once to one of our guys and he was grinning like a fool. Just glad it wasn't me.
But we can still appreciate the beauty, the absolute stillness of a snow filled land. It just makes life a wee bit more complicated sometimes. And, of course, sometimes it makes life very straightforward. You take one look at that road-end and tell yourself 'no way,not today' and you don't feel too guilty when you turn back. Decision's made for you.
I quite like snow sometimes.

I quite like snow sometimes. | Fully understand... but I bet you get that thrill of satisfaction when you get that thirteen and a half tonner up that farm road and back by sheer will power, and live to tell the tale!

A bit of it's pride too, pride in a job started and finished. Done and dusted. It's what we in Scotland, and probably elsewhere, call being 'thrawn'.
Well, off to bed for me, one day follows another. Cheers, Jack.

Someone has promised to lead me to a secret wildlife location (blindfolds optional ) and that's the day it all happens. But it won't happen if it is snowing. For one thing all roads in the capital will be shut down. I'm with Jack on this one.
