| Yep, I went and looked it up right after my post and was glad to see that there was nothing wrong with my geography after all and nothing had changed.
Your weather is still coming in from the North Atlantic and that pressure is sucking up ours from a southerly direction so while you are shivering we're basking and having the best summer since 2006. It was 32 degrees on my car's thermostat yesterday. Thank goodness for air conditioning!
As we aren't able to change the weather have you considering using tanning salons to manage your SAD? It may help. |

I was invited to go down to London by my friend's sister to stay a few days with them but I never heard any more about it again, no arrangements were made (my friend said we'd almost definitely go before September, now he has no idea apparently)... doesn't look like it's going to happen now.
I could quite literally cry. I've never been to a tanning place, but I think it's the whole outside summer atmosphere I need. Artificial lights don't really work, I have one and I end up feeling even more depressed for some reason so I never use it any more. |

| | | Re: Why is it so cold? Perhaps it would be worth investigating, Amoeba. My father-in-law used to own a tanning salon and although I was never a fan of it for cosmetic purposes I know that many people used to go during the winter months to aleviate their SAD symptoms and for the vitamin D it provided.
Is there any chance you could go abroad on holiday for a while? Although it's hot down south at the moment there is no guarantee that it will last so London may not be a good bet anyway even if you could go. |

| | | Re: Why is it so cold? I'll look into it, if I do choose one I want to know the staff there are very strict and professional. I've heard a lot of the salons are not so good so I'll be selecting carefully. I wonder if there is one that actually does that sort of thing for medical purposes and not only cosmetic?
Yeah I have no option to travel abroad, I've been trying to convince some people to go with me but they tend not to give me a straight answer (always a maybe) so I can't really arrange anything until I'm sure I have someone to go with. Going to an unfamiliar country alone... I'm not sure I would be able to do that. |

| | | Re: Why is it so cold? You could even head north, we've had pretty good weather in Aviemore and around the Moray coast. A mixture of mainly sunshine with some showers and wind now and again, but not what I'd call cold.
I've suffered from SAD in the past, but have found what helps me in the winter is walking in the sunshine with snow on the ground, I think it may be the way the light reflects up off the snow. SAD hasn't been as much of a problem since I moved here, as long as I get outside regularly. |

Speaking of which, our weather has been distinctly average - some very (unusually) hot days but some unexpectedly cool days and, especially, nights. Really perhaps a more exaggerated pattern from the usual .... Quote:

Probably because you went there and stayed there.
I hope your weather improves soon. |

She'll be feeling cold, whilst I'm too hot.
| I lived in Edinburgh for nearly six years in the late sixties and early seventies and it never got cold enough to wear a coat. Either it has changed, or the second paragraph applies!
