I am wondering how much longer this spewing of ash will last. Didn't Mount st Helens do just the one big erruption and then stop? have we had more ash than that by now? If it does cause significant cooling what are the chances it will bring the gulf stream back online? Sorry, just thinking aloud. Thanks for reassurance about the birds. |

Anyone else notice that when it comes on the telly its always "That volcano in Iceland" - for some reason nobody trys to pronounce it

There are some amusing videos on Youtube explaining gow to pronounce it. But I still can't!
I suppose it could go on releasing ash clouds for years. Remember Montserrat, the island that had to be evacuated when there was an erruption? That is still giving out ash and mud flows... |

Hi Connor7 et.al. Lovely pictures. Hmmm It doesn't look as if we will have to worry about global warming for a bit then, especially if the larger one blows!
It must be terrible for the icelanders! It could put an end to all farming there, except that under glass. Those shots of ordinary brown earth right beneath the ash cloud. Surely it won't stay brown if the wind changes? And of course with the vegetation smothered there'll be no food for wildlife. | | | |
