| | | End of winter, beginning of spring? Just saw these in the garden yesterday next to the last (perhaps) of the snow.

| | | Re: End of winter, beginning of spring? I've really enjoyed my winter hill walking this year and the additional snow we’ve had has truly added to the whole experience. Photography, another of my many outdoor interests, has also been exceptional, with plenty of opportunities to capture some magical images. In saying all that, I feel now I've had enough of the bitter cold days high up in the mountains and I'm looking forward to some decent spring and summer weather, hopefully with a touch of warmth, just to add a little colour to the landscape.

| | | Re: End of winter, beginning of spring? Yay Spring starts on March 21. That's some very nice crocus's. I saw on TV... because of all the buildings, it's approximately 5 degrees warmer in cities, and so spring begins a couple of weeks earlier than in the cointryside. The only flowers i've seen so far in the colder North this year are snowdrops, but there are a ton of bluebell shoots in the woods waiting to spring,. |

| | | Re: End of winter, beginning of spring? Perhaps you have just been unlucky with the early flowers Barjon, or you are in a very cold area, but these crocuses were in a garden in Gairloch, which is probably a little warmer than further inland, though from the amount of snow, you'd never guess.

| | | Re: End of winter, beginning of spring? I'm sure habitat varies quite a lot from place to place. Spring starts earlier in some areas than others =). Variation in height, how far north, natural barriers to wind, what weather we get, and how built up it is, all will have a factor on when the flowers pop their heads out of the door =) |

| | | Re: End of winter, beginning of spring? Lovely photo Dave! Things are only only just getting going here, Crocuses are barely open yet only the snowdrops are in full flower, which is later than the last few years but it does feel like a return to "normal" timing.
