Gone off a bit

Is it just me or has it gone off a bit brisk today? For the first time I felt my fingers getting numb.

Yes, definitely getting the gloves out - beautifully clear and bright today but very nippy. Frost forecast for Sheffield tonight.

Re: Gone off a bit

Well we have just had a couple of radiators fitted in our computer room and utility room but unfortunately we were told that the pump might not be powerful enough to pump water to them (and it wasn't).

So we bought a new pump that the plumber recommended (next one up to what we already had) which Dave fitted last night but still only luke warm radiators! I'm sitting here in my woolly hat and fleece!

Nice warm afternoon here in South Cheshire, the flies were all sitting on the fence sunning themselves but as for butterflies just one brave (or foolish) Red Admiral.

Re: Gone off a bit

Not too bad up here in the Outer Hebrides, very cold wind which has killed off my mint, but about 6c tonight, but still need by hot water bottle. Spent 3 hours walking around the balranald RSPB reserve this afternoon, got a little wind chapped but warm enough to tie coat around waist.

Some of them need a frost to get them growing.
I saw a few tortoiseshells yesterday in the sun, I said goodbye to them though.

Re: Gone off a bit

Frost on my car for the first time this morning - brrrrrr!!

I had to put the central heating on for ten minutes as well this morning to take the nip out of the air.

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day though with clear blue skies - ideal for a brisk walk.

Here in Cambridgeshire we've got our first ground frost of the Autumn this morning but with a lovely bright sky. Damn, is it time to go to work already!

Morning Jennywrenny. If you've other radiators which are not as necessary as the one say in the computer room, try switching them off and you just might get more warmth in the areas you really need it. Works for us.

Yes, first frost I've seen as well (also iin Cambs) though a colleague said they'd had one yesterday morning. Beautiful clouds in a blue sky.

Yip, frost here too this morning in Hertfordshire. Now where did I put the straw I was supposed to have wrapped round the tender plants before the first frost??

Re: Gone off a bit

Froze the bird-bath but not the pond. Interesting that the first frost seems to have hit the whole country at once. How often does that happen?
Will the birds come flocking back to feeders now? Haven't noticed any special activity. Only a solitary wasp foraging though ...

We have tried that but the new radiators are still only getting luke warm even with every other radiator in the house turned off. I have phoned the plumber to come out and have a look - we're not sure if it's because of the way the pipes are running, ie, the new ones are shooting off in a new direction? Will see what the plumber says. Thanks anyway Tinkerbell
