| | Have you fallen over yet?! ICE, ICE and more ICE
Ok - thought I'd start the ball rolling so we can tally up our bumps and bruises - please leave out any road traffic accidents and really very serious ones, don't want to depress everyone.
Anyway:
On the way home from work this evening, I slipped on ice and came down straddled across a low wall leaving me with a very painful back, bruised ribs and pulled back muscle - now hobbling around with a walking stick, doped up with painkillers and hot water bottle strapped to my back - hope I can get to work tomorrow!
other accidents past few days:
1 friend with broken ankle
2 friends with broken wrists
2 of my mum's friends with broken wrists
A&E choc a bloc!
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! |

| | | Re: Have you fallen over yet?! I slipped on a frozen puddle at the back of my car a few days ago that was covered with snow. No harm done fortunately - but my heart missed a beat or two in the process of me practicing for Dancing on Ice!
I'm quite proud that I managed to stay upright!
Get well soon Picidae :-)

| | | Re: Have you fallen over yet?! Personally, not yet. But the hubby did on Wednesday and guess who was walking behind him with my camera in hand to take pictures of the snow
(he didn't hurt himself)

| | | Re: Have you fallen over yet?! Thank goodness, I haven't fallen yet! I have poor balance due to disability so I'm a prime candidate for going over. I've just ordered a mud and ice grip for my walking stick, which is a little spikey gizmo that clips over the bottom of the stick. Apparently it works very well.
Somewhere at the back of my outhouse (which isn't heated) is a conventional walkers' pole with spike. It would be useful but I can't bear the thought of going in there to ferret for it. There's also a pair of wellies which were last worn in the late 90s.
Fresh snow each night has kept the paths a little bit safer. However it's built up in layers as it's been trodden down so that the surface of the paths and pavements is now way above the road! Weird! |

| | | Re: Have you fallen over yet?! Not yet, but that's probably because I have a set of Ice Grips that I attach to the bottom of my walking boots whenever I'm going out.
A couple of years ago I slipped and fell on a sheet of ice I didn't even see until I was on it, which is when I bought the Ice Grips.
I got mine online, but shops like Blacks, or Millets sometimes stock them or similar things, I can't recommend them highly enough.
They are made mainly of rubber and loop over the toe of the boot or shoe and pull up behind the heel. Once in place there are 6 short metal spikes under the ball of the foot area and 2 spirals of metal that cross over behind this. Since wearing them, I've not slipped at all, and they only cost about £15 including postage.
They wouldn't be suitable for mountain climbing or hill walking, but are great for getting to the shops, or walking the dog in the local woods, or low level walks. |

| | | Re: Have you fallen over yet?! Fantastic idea earthdragon! I'm going to look into these. I've not slipped yet, but when it starts to melt I think I'm going to have some fun.
