| | | Re: Why Do People Panic When It Snows I've been able to go out 3 times since December 21st.Let me explain why.
December 21st around here was the day the snow came ,it looked so beautiful I decided to go for a little walk and take some photos.I had a lovely walk but unfortunately on the way back I slipped on some hidden ice and hurt my ankle.I had it x-rayed and was told it was a bad sprain,so I went home on crutches but trying to put my weight on it although it was(bleep) agony.
Fast forward to December 31st, I was still in a lot of pain, went back to the hospital and had it re x-rayed.It had been broken all the time.To cut a long painful story short now I've got a cast on as well as crutches.
Since then my only venture out has been to the fracture clinic on 4th of January, which of course was very busy with people who like me had fallen on ice.
Between me being on crutches and my husband being disabled ,I'm really glad that we keep a good store cupboard because neither of us can go out in the snow.
Thankfully our son has been able to walk to our local Tesco with a back pack on ,fill it up and walk home ,according to him the shelves are being restocked regularly because traffic is moving on the main roads but our side roads are very dangerous and up where we live it's not worth trying to dig your car out because the steep hill down to the main road is trecherous.
Anyway, keep safe everyone, Barbara. |

| | | Re: Why Do People Panic When It Snows Sadly my mother-in-law falls into the "panic buying" category. Spoke to her on Monday, at a time when we didn't actually have snow but it was forecast the following day. Asked if she needed anything, and she said she'd already been shopping that morning and bought in a few essentials, including 2 x 6 pint bottles of milk! She lives alone - there are 3 in our household and we wouldn't get through one of those in a normal week! She went on to say that if she ran out, she has several cartons of long-life stuff in the curpboard!
We were then snowed in for most of this week, but managed to walk to the nearest village for a quick shop. When I noticed their bread shelves were almost empty I asked one of the girls whether they'd not had a delivery due to the snow. She said they'd had 2 lorries in and as fast as they'd stocked the shelves it had all disappeared.
We finally managed to get out in the car today and do a weekly shop, but I haven't bought anything more than normal, despite forecasts of more snow here over the weekend and into next week.
Its the same at Christmas - shops are barely closed for 2 days, yet people stock up enough for a month then end up chucking half of it out in the New Year! |

...oh and my internet connection. Having said that, though I can get online with my new phone now

| | | Re: Why Do People Panic When It Snows I work in a supermarket and people in my shop have been shopping heavily since new year, usually goes a little quiet, but many heeded the warning of snow and stocked up which was fine, but now as soon as the newscasters tell stories of people panic buying it sets everyone else off, and then they get into 'survival' mode, where they suddenly become bad tempered and stressed because they can't get what they want. Many of the staff on wednesday trudged through the snow to get to work so everyone could get their provisions, so please if you get to your local supermarket and they haven't got what you want, it was probably there but everyone has panicked and bought loads, so don't have a go at the staff!! |

I used to work in a job centre so I remember what it was like trying to grit your teeth and always try to be nice to customer service staff!

| | | Re: Why Do People Panic When It Snows Sainsburys in Hastings was stripped bare of essentials when I went yesterday afternoon but that was probably as much to do with the delivery lorries being unable to get to the store as panic buying. Our local authority have heeded the advice about reserving salt stocks and haven't gritted anywhere. The only safe way to get anywhere in Hastings at the moment is in a 4x4, even on the main A21. I've been to the supermarket 3 times since it snowed, mainly because I'm getting a bit stir crazy stuck at home but I also ran my father there and did a big shop for my sister. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
