Reservoir water stocks

We had a few scare stories a couple of months ago, about the lack of water in British reservoirs. I wonder how they fare now, after a reasonable amount of rain over the last few weeks.

Is there such a thing as a national grid for water? Or if the reservoir overflows, does the residue just makes it's way into the sea - seems such a waste.

Re: Reservoir water stocks

No there is no national grid ,yes the overflow usually joins the sea

Re: Reservoir water stocks

The reservoirs here in the south east are very low for the time of year. I have just received a letter from southern water, it starts.........
I am writing to you in the middle of what could soon be the driest period in the south for over 100 years, and it goes on urging us not to waste water etc. We already have a hosepipe ban, which has been in force all over winter, ever known that before ?
I know someone who runs a turfing business and he has had to lay people off because customers are not buying turf, because they are not allowed to water it in.
Just hope we don't have to resort to standpipes in the summer as that will stop me from working....................Jon

Re: Reservoir water stocks

I cant remember the last time it rained here in Brum - not significantly anyway. Not sure where my local reservoir is but I'd guess it's fairly low in stock.

I don't think they are too bad as yet here in the Midlands, though I know what you are saying Boddie, it's been weeks since we had any amount of rainfall.
I did see some pretty dramatic images in the Telegraph the other day of a reservoir or should I say "mud hole", in the South-East.

Be assured by one thing though, you know the British weather, when it does start to rain it won't stop for a month and we'll all be flooded out!!

Re: Reservoir water stocks

A nice fat big thunderstorm. Can't wait to see one. Use to stay at my mates house in Neville Holt and watch them rolling over Corby. Fantastic. havent seen a good one for at least two years and that was in Bassano, Italy, rolling over the alps. A brilliant sight.

Re: Reservoir water stocks

The reservoirs in Derbyshire are nearly full but we could do with a top up soon.
