good time for sundogs

With more folk out and about before dusk and after dawn it's a good time of year to see sundogs low down and either side some 22 degrees from the sun - here's a fair one from the bedroom window this morning reinforced by cirrus cloud

But like the couple I've taken only one of the pair. Never seen Moon Dogs tho.

Probably less obvious but again a good time of the year for moondogs around a full moon low down in the sky on hazy nights with some cirrus cloud around.

The complete 22 degree diameter halo around a bright if hazy moon is fairly common whilst the rarer moondogs, sitting on the halo and level with the moon are uncommon

In theory both halo and stardogs can be around any bright object/ star in the sky but only the sun and moon are bright enough for us to see them

Check-out today's [Dec 1] SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids for an amazing pic from Finland of lunar halo/moondogs and other extremely rare halo phenomena around the bright moon some needing new names - it's full tonight and skyhigh and another full moon occurs on Dec 30 - two fulls in one month - better hide under the duvet
