My favs are Mammatus Clouds. Shame we don't get them in the UK, they are said to preceed hurricans in the US. Have a look at some amazing pics on Jorn Olsen's website - just keep clicking "Next" Jorn Olsen Photography

| | | Re: lenticular clouds Pre digicam days I saw something very similar to lenticular clouds over the hills near Bantry Bay Ireland. I've also seen those bubbly clouds in the UK and they were associated with mini-tornados (Leek and Alsager). Keep looking we must be able to gat a UK pic

| | | Re: lenticular clouds I think I heard that the UK gets more tornados per square mile than the States do.. they just arent so big or bothersome. It seems to me that they are becoming more frequent and larger... or is that just because we are more aware of them. Can anyone confirm this informantion please? |

As others have suggested, we do sometimes get mammatus clouds in the UK, but I must admit I've never seen one. Someone from work posted one on our intranet a couple of years ago.

| | | Re: lenticular clouds This site might interest cloud fans. It's the Cloud Appreciation Society.
Bowdie (my other half) was sweet enough to bring home one of their books for me, The Cloud Spotters Guide. Acccustomed to colourful illustrations I was a bit perturbed to find most of them in black and white, it kinda has the feel of a book written in the 40's somehow. But I've started reading it now and its captivating, very entertainingly written and full of info. |
