| | | Re: British Summer 2009 I desperately hope it's not going to be hot as I don't cope well with heat.
I would, however like more thunderstorms than we had last year (I don't think we even got a proper one, just the odd rumble and some heavy rain). I want to get some nice photos and HD video footage if I can .

| | | Re: British Summer 2009 I agree wrt Thunderstorms, we haven't had a good one for quite a while, if it has to be hot and humid then I hope we at least get some good thunderstorms out of it. |

| | | Re: British Summer 2009 Has anyone noticed a trend in recent years of early May bein g cool and wet. I remember a May Bank holiday in 1995 being down to 8c, about the norm for early April. At this time of writing here in Sussex the temperature yesterday was only 12c, but is predicted to rise to about 20c by Friday, just in time for the Spring Bank Holiday !
The cool period of early may is a risky one for yong birds leaving the nest, as food may be scarce, and their feathers are not yet fully waterproofed, so they can die of exposure.
All in all, May is like a woman in love, contrary and fickle sometimes, and then coming out with a big smile. May is very feminine month, no wonder the tradition of maypole dancing was so populor in rural areas. sadly nowadays , I dont know of any Maypole celebrations in this area. |

| | | Re: British Summer 2009 This May hasn't followed the pattern of recent years up here. In Scotland we always seemed to be guaranteed at least one really warm, sunny week in May, still waiting.

| | | Re: British Summer 2009 I've noticed the past few years, May has been cool and wet (although I think the begining of last May it was quite warm and sunny) which is interesting as May is normally one of the driest months of the year. |
