Heavy snow and every now and then it stops and hails instead .

Had heavy snow here in Southampton overnight (heaviest I've seen during my five years here). Currently about 15-20cm (6 in.) deep, although it's now stopped snowing.

Just been round to the local shops. Thank goodness they still exist!
Walked in the road as the pavements are under about a foot of snow and it was easier to use a trodden route.
Lots of community feel out there, making contact we don't see from one year to the next.

Don't forget if you have an elderly person nearby or a mum/dad with young children that can't get out...offer help/shopping.

The really low temps overnight didn't materialise thankfully, we only dropped to -13C.

However, we only reached a high of -7C this afternoon, and it was a dull, dismal looking day with odd snow showers.

Record lows are forecast for this evening, but it's starting to get foggy, so it might not be too bad.

Bit of a chilly wind but no snow and what we did get has nearly all gone.

Minus 11C here this morning and our two resident roe deer are lying smack bang in the middle of an open field. They couldn't be more obvious if they tried.

SW London: -5C now [8.30AM] but no overnight snow to add to 6" in garden - dull and overcast although clear before dawn with planes [to where?] in sky. Bird seed and old cake put on patio as most mornings for magpies/doves/ wood pigeons/ blackbirds but no robins. Garden criss-crossed by overnight fox trails as usual
