not 100% sure about this, but is Whitby one of the few places where you can see both sunrise and sunset from the same bay??
i seem to remember one of the local fishermen saying this years ago.

here are a couple of pics of tonights sunset,
first one visible for a few days due to the heavy cloud we have been getting at sunset time ,
taken around 18.40 about 10 min apart

Nice colours there, Brian, but do I think that you time should be 17.40 and not 18.40?
Same situation here, first chance for several days.
