back in Val d'Isere, so this was taken by a friend on a point and shoot.
(SLRs are a bit big for skiing!)
Its caused by refraction through ice crystals in the cirrus cloud and Sun dog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and have good descriptions.
it a much tighter circle than an ordinary rainbow (44 degrees !)
