BWD | My fella has missed anything resembling proper snow for the last three years - it always happens as he's off to some desert warzone or other - He left for Afganistan on Sunday morning!!!! |

| | | Re: Snow...with thunder and lightning! I drove to work this morning and the roads had a light sprinkling of snow, an hour later and there was four inches of snow on the road. Eight Blackbirds in the garden fighting over the food and looking for water.
The point was raised that many 18 year olds had never seen so much snow leave alone driven in it

Before setting of for work went into the garden to clear the snow off the bird table and fill the feeders. Was busy clearing away the snow when I noticed a movement at my feet.It was still dark(5.30) but I could make out it was a blackbird.I went to get the ground feeder and filled with seed and brought it back to where blackbird was still waiting.Placing the feeder on the ground the bird never hesitated,it tucked in straight away before I had barely set it on the ground!!
Made sure the bird bath and water dishes were filled too and made my way back indoors.Looking out of the window could make out 2 more blackbirds feeding at the other ground feeder.Shows you just how important it is to feed the birds at times like these!!

| | | Re: Snow...with thunder and lightning! There was a moment of absolute magic yesterday. At about three O'Clock in the afternoon, it really started falling, but with a westerly wind, it was a white blanket of horizontal snow! Looking out of the window, I could see the silhouettes of three Red Deer running through the field from left to right. Within a minute of seeing this, a flash of wings and a moment of madness and my Sprawk decided to land about two feet in front of me displaying her steel grey feathers and stunning yellow eye. The experience was made better knowing that she was in the area but never having seen her before. It was all a bit fast but my it was breathtaking! |

A message for all the younger WAB members - take a tip from your uncle Dave and don't wait till your 48 to make your first snow angel...
While I was out in the woods having a second childhood, Tom spotted a fox in the garden trying to shelter from the snow. He grabbed my old D70 and took this...
