UK winter weather forecast

Looks like the townies will be reaching for the heated seat button in their 4x4s and Geordies might even consider rolling down their sleeves over the next few months as we're set for a colder than average winter.

Don't they say that almost every year, then come March everyone is saying "It's not like in my day when it snowed proper in winter"

Must say that I agree with Helen. A cold winter can't come soon enough for me - it would be nice to see some real snow!

Even here in Scotland we don't see much snow during the winters now. I think we need a really cold winter followed by a warm spring to set nature back on coarse.

It would be good to see a proper Winter for once, lots of snow, ice etc...

I know there are always going to be those who moan about it causing disruption to travel and preventing them from getting to work - who cares?

It looks fantastic, feels healthy and does good.

And just for the record, I'm a farmer so I have to work outside in it everyday

I love the snow and the cleanlines it gives the land. I love the cold crisp mornings and wandering the countryside at this time of the year. But then again I am still able to do it but there are a lot of older members of society dreading this very weather and you also can't escape the disruption that this type of weather can bring.

Perhaps if the proper infrastructure was in place to deal with it it wouldn't be so bad, but it isn't.

Love it or loath it, we are not properley equipped as a nation to deal with snow & ice, as nice and beautiful as it is.

More than two inches and everything grinds to a halt!! plus it seems like 90% of the population can't get the idea of slowing down whilst driving on a very slippery surface

It is a danger to the elderly, and more should be done to help & protect them during severe weather, just simply dropping in as a neighbour to see if they are ok is a start.

Every year they say we are going to get a hard winter but in reality it never happens, my eldest son is 14 and he's never seen what I would call a decent snowfall, maybe this time they will be right & we can dust off that sledge
