Sea water freezes at a different temperature than fresh water because of the salinity - the freezing point lowers by 0.5 C by every ppt of salinity, the average being a freezing point being -2 C (according to my books  ) | I think Claire and her books are correct. I was working in the Canadian Beaufort sea in October so we watched the sea starting to freeze and it was at -2 c.
