| | Weather in 2009? a hot summer? So I'm getting all excited about spring, planning what plants to grow and where, hoping to get some veggies on the go....
I wonder if we will get a hot summer?
I think nature is owed a good year after the last two dull, wet miserable summers... I hope to see lots of nesting birdies this spring and heaps more butterflies and insects in the summer too...
Then again I can't bear to be in the office on a sweaty day, so I don't know what I want really...
Anyone have any predictions? |

and I'm Father Christmas. If what you say is the case it owes Scotland big time as we have not had a decent summer for years.

As for the English weather we must be due something decent eventually although I'm not convinced I'll still be here when it arrives |

They didnt tell us in October that this will be the coldest winter so far this year and it has been for 9 years, but as ive said it wasnt predicted. Wake up and see what youve got each day . sheila

| | | Re: Weather in 2009? a hot summer? I think, if I remember the forecasters did predict a cold snap in early December and how right there were too.
There was strong bets on a white christmas, but sadly not to be.
What they are saying now, is any future christmas's are to be wet and mild.
January and Febuary are the months for snow. |

| | | Re: Weather in 2009? a hot summer? I'd love a decent summer for 2009. For the last two summers I have seen so few butterflies and I am really missing them. A good butterfly summer would be just the ticket.
As for the current cold spell, I have recently read that this has been the coldest start to winter for 30 years. I just about remember the one 30 years ago, it mutated into the lovely snowy 'Winter of Discontent' (1979). Goodly drifts of snow piled against the house ends whilst we sat by candleleight because of the strikes. Those were the days.
Regards, Chris

I remember the winter of 1979 and the strikes. lucky for me, I got a job before Maggie took the reins of power Although, I think the winter of 1970/71 were the black-outs when the power was cut-off and we had to sit by candle light. Them were the dark days. |

| | | Re: Weather in 2009? a hot summer? HI Foxy Mars
I remember the blackouts of the early 70's but my dad being clever rigged up electric lights using old headlamps and car batteries. The winter of 78/79 was very extended with the centre of Edinburgh getting over 7" of snow on March 21st followed by several days of heavy overnight frosts. I hope it dosent happen this year as the spring cant come fast enough for me this year.
Regards Les. |

I use to work in supermarket warehouse and thinking now at the time, how customers yearned for it. Maybe talking around the 1974/75 time. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
