Re: Winter forecast

well rain - and a certain chance of more rain and to tip the winter off with a lot more rain. at least in this country the weather is predictable - rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain rain

Hopefully next summer will be nicer because we usually have a bit of sun every 3 years. eg 2003, 2006

these past 2 years have been rubbish, wet and grey so next summer should be nice. (I wish! )

Re: Winter forecast

I think the posts above .... wind and rain .... sum it up very well.

Who needs a BBC forecaster?

Here's hoping for snow and ice, blue skies and sun .... emphasis on the word "hoping" as it is not going to happen.

Richard

I'm dreaming for a 47er, alternatively a 63er and as a last resort, a 79er.

Re: Winter forecast

ive read and heard a few times now were still expecting this "late sumer!" i keep waiting and hoping but it's getting later and later, im starting to think a late summer might mean "next summer"

I don't know if you guys use this site but its forecasting for shipping and flying, i find it 10x more relyable than BBC or met office's forecasts

Were you around for the first of those? 49 was not too balmy either in these parts and in 63 I drove an van loaded with 120 dozen bottles of Guinness to an area wot the Government had declared "cut off and isolated" Mind you I did the last 15 miles being towed by a tractor sent down to the nearest town by the thirsty locals. The pub was owned by a chap called Zellor and at the time it was the only Zd in the Irish phone book

Re: Winter forecast

Somehow I think there will be more severe rain and flooding - the 4th or 5th "once in a hundred years" event over the past 18 months
I don't see a change in the recent pattern for damaging gales at the turn of the year
Locally, no more heavy snow until 2013...

A 47er?
I'll stick my neck out and hazard a guess that you didn't experience it!
Nice and warm for me please.

Our local forecast has just suggested sleet for the hills tonight or tomorrow! Living up in those hills, that's not something I look forward to!

For anyone who's interested in the winter of 47...

Met Office: Great weather events: the winter of 1946/47

Check the temperatures and guess where I lived!

Re: Winter forecast

Just read the article- blimey that was cold! Compared with then, our winters have been tropical!
I wasn't around then but my Mum and late Dad,used to tell us about this winter and other winters past that seem unbelievable.
Does make you wonder how we'd all cope today if we experienced another winter like that one. We've had an easy ride for a good few decades in truth.
