| | | Re: Big Storm brewing I think that ever since a few experts got caught out not predicting the '87 Big Storm there is now an over-compensation in issuing severe weather warnings.
I reckon it will be a gentle breeze from the south and a warm, sunny day bringing in lots of spring migrants .
Then again we may get a severe storm, high winds and loads of rain and all those spring migrants will wisely stay in Africa and the Mediterranean.
What ever it turns out to be, there isn't much we can do about it.

| | | Re: Big Storm brewing There has already been alot of gales and heavy rain in Wales this year. When the Met office say there's a big storm coming quite often nothing happens or it's normal March winds or someone else gets it, as you say AndyC, but better put away the garden stuff that might blow around I suppose in case It's lovely and sunny just now |

Wales and the southern counties will be worst affected but everyone will feel it to some degree. I'm in Lancashire and at the moment it's raining hard and the wind is kicking up. The kids are excited, watching out of the window waiting for something amazing to happen . As long as the lamp post on the corner doesn't do a nose dive onto the car, I'm sure they would be totally amused at that one.

If I'm well enough I might take a trip out to the coast too - I love stormy shores - so much more interesting than boring flat ones! |

| | | Re: Big Storm brewing Looking at an isobar chart (from the Find a Fishing Boat site) it looks quite severe for Cornwall, particularly the north coast but winds not so bad for Northern England. The rest of the South Coast will depend on the exact track of the storm centre.
I agree that forecasters tend to over emphasise the severity of storms nowadays. The danger in that is that we become complacent and one day the warning will be genuine but nobody will believe them. |

Everything is reasonably calm here at the moment, but looking at those satellite images it's not going to stay that way,
So all you WAB members out there look after yourselfs, and be careful if you have to go out tomorrow. |

| | | Re: Big Storm brewing Anyone on the West coast of Ireland?
The shipping forecast doesn't look good for you.
Shannon:
Southerly veering northwesterly gale 8 to storm 10, increasing violent storm 11 or hurricane force 12 for a time. High, becoming very high or phenomenal for a time. Showers. Good becoming very poor.
Not quite as bad as that here.
Irish Sea:
Southwest 5 backing south gale 8 to storm 10, becoming cyclonic 6 to gale 8 later. Moderate or rough, becoming very rough for a time. showers. Moderate or good, occasionally poor.
