Barquar | It was close to where I am then!
Edit: 15 miles NE of Lincoln... so even closer to me.

Floor bounced a bit (I'm upstairs)about 3 seconds then the computer table shook sideways for about a 1-2 seconds maybe more, no damage though.
Strange thing...not 1 car alarm went off, usually you sneeze and they go off and no dogs were barking (my neighbours dogs bark at everything! (much to my annoyance))

| | | Re: Er ! Earthquake ! They are now saying it was a 5:2, and the epicentre was Ludford near Market Rasen, I 've never heard such a horrible noise, it was just before 1 o'clock and we thought a plane was comming down, there was such a roaring noise bit like a train, the bed was shaking then the roar stopped and the house continued shaking, doors rattling, roof creaking etc, I collect old horse harness and have some Terrets (head harness} on stands and all the bells were ringing, it went on for about 20-30 seconds. We thought as I said a plane was coming down, then it was a hurricane or tornado then wondered if there had been an explosion somewhere like at nearby RAF Coningsby although I had been watching New Most Haunted before going to bed and thought I had been possessed
Apparantley the only people to die in a British earthquake were in Lincolnshire in the 11th centuary when part of the cathedral collapsed, we get them here from time to time but this was by far the worst I've experienced |

| | | Re: Er ! Earthquake ! I was just at the point where your drifting off when a noise woke me up, which sounded like my poster fallin down. Then I heard another noise and the bed started shaking! I was terrified and being half asleep had thoughts that the bed was being shaken by an intruder and even a ghost!!!!!
But then being me, despite being terrified and still to scraed to open my eyes, I still managed to drift off and forget about ti until i turned on the TV and the presentsers on breakfast sid "we seem to be the only ones who felt it" and I knew what had happened |

The noise was terrific, a very deep rumble that built in intensity for about 20-30 seconds accompanied by everything shaking and rattling.
The dog went absolutely ape, running round the house barking.
I went to the window to look out and all I could see were lots of other house lights being switched on!
Certainly the strongest quake I can ever remember.

It's my second earthquake - I think the first must have been the one that this is the 'worst since', over 20 years ago. Still didn't have a clue what it was until it was over, though. Wobbling must derange my brain. |

I didn't at first know what it could have been. After checking everywhere in the house it dawned on me it could have been an earthquake. I checked on BBC news and saw it confirmed.
This morning I checked our Garage which is directly below our bedroom to find a few items had fallen off shelves. Relieved to see nothing more than that. |

| | | Re: Er ! Earthquake ! Like Steve, I felt it strongly here in Leicestershire. It woke me up and sounded like a train was passing right outside my window. I was fairly sure it was an earthquake as I can remember experiencing a couple in the past. Quite exciting really - we're fortunate in the UK to know they're never going to be too serious.
