In Grantham, Lincolnshire. Just after 1 am rumbling and house shaking. Few ornaments on the floor. A strange experience it was.
They say the epicentre was market rasen not far from Lincoln.

I was away in the land of nod and missed it

I'm quite disappointed - I'm studying earthquakes as part of my course at the moment and would love to have felt it

Re: Er ! Earthquake !

Also sensed the incredible pent up power during the tremors. I would hate to be caught in a full blown quake

I'm only seven miles south of Romford but didn't hear or feel anything. The Thames must have dampened it out!

Re: Er ! Earthquake !

Following on from some people mentioning birds and animals reactions to it, my hubby said one of our dogs went a bit 'loopy' 20 or so minutes before it, was a bit clingy, jittery and seemed uncomfortable, I wonder if he could sense anything?

Same here. I'm a very heavy sleeper, but the noise and shaking woke me up.

HiD smiled and said "No, you did n't do it". What an ego killer she can be

One of my best friends lives in Market Rasen and she texted me this morning to say that the chimney has fallen off of her cottage!

I was up and didn't feel a thing here in Berkshire, I would love to feel what an earthquake feels like.

I wonder what Roger (Ollie) experienced. He lives very close to the epicentre.

Re: Er ! Earthquake !

It woke me up at about 1am, to be honest I thought it someone was under the bed shaking it, you could even hear the mattress springs "pinging". Dogs didn't bark so my second thought was that it was either a poltergeist or I must have been dreaming, even when I thought I was awake. A very weird feeling indeed, only lasted about 10 secs then stopped, but a few seconds later there was this funny vibration and then gone. Opted for the dreaming scenario until I saw the news - why didn't I think of an earthquake! Bit scary but no damage done.

I'm in grimsby about 10 miles from Rasen, and it was very strong here. Woke me up straight away and for 10 mins i couldn't stop shaking I though it was a lane coming down when it was happening and was just waiting for a bang

Same here, slept through it. I'm in Lancs but not that far from Manchester really and didn't feel a thing. My other half was still up at the time but he didn't feel anything either. Everyone around us felt it, even the other kids at my children's school. How annoying that I missed it.

Yes, thank you, Jaki. She and her family are fine. She said it was very scary but very exciting too.

Yep not far off me Graham.

One heck of a rumbling noise, all the bits and pieces on the bedroom dresser or whatever you call it where rattling. The bed shaking, thought the whole place was going to collapse the dogs started howling. Something I wouldn't want to experience again.

Pleased to say though no actual damage done as far as we can see.
Roger

Much the same here Roger. I woke wondering what the heck was going on. At first I thought our roof had collapsed. After checking all rooms, the loft and outside It finally dawned on me it could have been a quake.
I'm please to hear no damage done at your end, I was concerned as your so close.

Re: Er ! Earthquake !

I couldnt believe it when I went outside afterwards to see if there was anything amiss... my neighbours were still fast asleep!.. The noise here was terrific. And I am at least 50miles from the epicentre. It really felt like a wave had gone under the house.

Same here. We were the only ones that seemed to notice! How anyone could sleep through that is beyond me..There again, I was only half a sleep, just about gone when it happened. My daughter who lives only a couple of miles from us also slept thought it.

Re: Er ! Earthquake !

Typical metro-centric attitude, the Evening Standard's headline yesterday was "Earthquake hits London"! I suppose on one level it's true but it hardly tells the whole story.

Re: Er ! Earthquake !

Just to add to what I wrote in an earlier post, my son who lives in the area went outside straight away as the shaking was still happening then when it finished he said it was spooky for a little while, you could have heard a pin drop, then all hell broke loose, the birds started up as one, Rabbits came out of their burrows and were running about madly, everything came to life again by either being petrified or relieved it was all over, he said the strange thing was though and we noticed it here that there were no car alarms going off, yet most night we can hear one in the distance somewhere
