Gloomy, windy and increasingly wet. I hope things improve for the weekend.

Wet and dull today.
However, for most of the month it has been bright and sunny (moderately warm out in the open) with frost most nights (down to -9C).

One strange observation is that I've often been quite warm basking in the sun at the bus stop up here in the foothills but walking about down in the city centre have felt very cold. This isn't what you'd expect: lower land should be less cold and there should be some "heat island effect", even in a small city like Sheffield (you certainly notice the increased temperature travelling into central London from the suburbs).

I think this is is due to the number of tall buildings which have been built in the city centre over recent years (and even more still being built). Partly because these shield out the sun and partly because they create a "canyon effect" - channels the wind so what is a slight breeze out in the open becomes a fierce gale amongst the highrise.

Extremely windy, and wet. Not nice. Also MUCH colder, feels as if we may be heading for snow.

Friday feb 29th 22.30,wind is very very strong tonight,in fact quite spooky, as i have a gap somewhere in the roof of the consevatory, and it whistles and howls like a spook.

Well..it's now just gone 5am and it's still wild, wet and very windy. If i was in any other situation i'd say it was exciting but......just hope the tiles stay on until the surveyor's been and gone!!

Hugely windy overnight - got very little sleep because our dog was so unsettled. Still windy this morning, but beautifully sunny with it.

windy last night, the scaffold around the house was making some amazing noises! very very sunny this am but still windy waiting for it to calm so i can go out on my bike

Very windy last night,kept thinking the conservatory roof was going to lift off,i hate it when its high winds it really scares me,this morning still very windy wet and sunny,not too cold.

Isn't it wonderful to see the sunshine again. What a tonic. I had very little sleep Friday night what with the gale force wind rattling the doors and windows. I ended up stuffing the keyholes with tissue to stop the eerie howling of the wind, doesn't your imagination run riot at 3am in the morning. LoL

Today is quite calm,sun and cloud but mild,i had a nice morning in the garden,pulling yards and yards of algie off the water feature,never seen it like this befor,the frost normaly kills it off but not this year,yes i did leave beside the water for a few hours to let the creepy crawlys get back where they came from,always do,you would be serprized how many there were,those little things that look a bit like woodlouse,dont know what they are called,but i know birds like them as when ever i take algie off and leave it on the side, the birds pull it all over the place.

Well its less windy than yesterday ..and with clear skies in the morning it was rather a pleasant day..Its just started to cloud over now and feeling a bit chilli..

JUst for Tufftie who likes the snow best I could Royal Mail would not let me send it through post because it would damage other letters

taken about 2pm today only 20 mins drive from house

this is a great place for chilling out and for watching the bird life but none to see today except for a pair of Mallards could here the pheasants and grouse up in the hills though but no were in site

Yea Bill Lochindorb!! Was here last year end of March watching a pair of Black throated Divers at the bottom end - and a Red throated at t'other end!! Shall be there again this month end with a bit of luck............
