| | | Flooding and Housing I know that there have been numerous mentions on WAB recently regarding flood plain developement but came across this today, I work in York and was just looking on the WEB for the extent of flooding,, Traffic was murder this morning,it appears that the area that has flooded has recently been earmarked for housing developement.. I have posted the web link here,,,, BBC NEWS | England | North Yorkshire | York's relief as Ouse levels drop
I trust they will think twice about the houses now?

| | | Re: Flooding and Housing It's the same in our area, in recent years there have been a couple of major develpoments locally by out of town developers on land that the local builders most of who were born in the area, wouldn't touch with a barge pole. All was ok the first few years which seemed to be dryer than norm but the last few there have been loads of problems. It amuses me to see Peter Levy pontificating on Look North about the flood problems in certain areas in Lincs and Yorkshire, most featuring new developments with hardly a blade of grass to be seen, causing huge run offs, inparticular one woman waving her arms about pointing to 'new' springs that had appeared in one area, I thought you silly woman those springs must have been there for hundreds of years even if they're perhaps not active if the water table is low. The Enviroment agency and assorted drainage boards get all the blame but I think much of it goes to the greedy developers and the local planning committees who allow such work to go ahead despite objections from the very organisations who are used as scapegoats | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
