shortest day
the shortest day falls on 22nd December this year. this is because 2008 is a leap year.

Leap years mean that women can turn scarlet!!! Females are allowed to propose during a leap year but they have to have a scarlet petticoat showing when doing so - hence the term scarlet woman!
It's also meant to be very good luck to start something new on 29th Feb!
