Do you miss colder autumns?

OK, I know that we've had the summer from hell and a warmer autumn is welcome but I'm one of those odd people who like wrapping up in scarfs, jumpers and coats come autumn.

I like it when the temp changes and things get colder. Am I alone in this or the only cold freak here?

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

No, I'm with you on this one. There's nothing better than a brisk walk on a cold day, coming back inside with a red face which tingles when it gets warm, misty mornings and snuggling up in front of the fire. It's a lot easier and nicer getting warm when it's cold outside than trying to stay cool in the heat.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

Yes I know what you mean. I'm not fond of hot summers so I usually look forward to a colder autumn arriving. Having said that, it is nice to be saving on central heating costs. The longer I put off switching the heating on, the better.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

Well I love warm summers but I also love cold autums and winters. it doesn't seem natural these very mild autumn and winters we have had recently. Can't beat an early morning frost on a clear fine day.

I'm quite happy to wait for the Winter for that.
Love a mild, sunny Autumn day.

I guess we have to wonder if we're going to get that this winter though eh? Last year was very mild...

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I love the autumn & winter months, frosty mornings, dew on cobwebs, a low mist hanging about over the ground, a lung full of cold, crisp fresh air, several layers of clothing, my coat with many pockets, I find in strangly comforting having to put all the cold weather gear on, I love spring but I'm not to keen on summer. to me autumn isn't autumn if you don't get the colder weather conditions

Talking Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I love the crisp air of autumn. I know what you mean I havent even got the heating on yet. Although the other evening I let the dog out and the fresh smell of autumn made me all nice inside I even commented on it to my daughter I love autumn but another thing I absolutely love is sweeping up the leaves. We have a sycamore near us it's only a young one but wow all those leaves, it's great sweep them up then you and the kids jump in them great fun. Just a child at heart myself.

P.S If I could just say the best time for a lovely autumnal smell and fresh air is first thing in the morning I am up at around 06.30 every morning and I always sit on the back doorstep with my coffee breathing it in before all the smelly traffic starts.Fi. X X X X

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

Yes, very much so.

For so much of the time now the seasons are so mixed up or simply merge into one another.

I always look forward to when you can smell the changing season, going into autumn that crisp freshness of the air when you breath it in. After summers the air always felt renewed going into autumn.

I also miss cold winters, there is nothing better than getting wrapped up to go out and feeling as though you are getting one over the weather with big wooley jumpers and coats, feeling warm and toasty and getting that tingle on your face and the gasp of bitterly cold air. Then on the flip side home, or wherever you happen to be going to always seems friendlier as you approach with warm looking yellow light streaming out from the windows with the anticipation of getting by a fire with a hot drink.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I'm very ambivalent about it. I do love those chilly windy days when you can go out for a walk in your coat and scarf and kick up the leaves, then come back for a hot drink and a bun. But I have also really enjoyed sitting outside with my lunch today in short sleeves soaking up the warmth of the sun after taking advantage of the dry, still, weather to rake up some of said leaves.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I like seasonal weather too. It's quite ironic also, that at a time when efficient lightweight thermal & waterproof gear is readily available, we seldom need it. Even the cheaper stuff is far better than we used to have 25+ years or so ago when we could have done with it.

I'm happy still to be in shorts, though I understand the appeal of cold crisp days- but I'm happy to wait for winter for that. I just dislike grey, dismal days!

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I don't mind whether autumn is relatively warm or cold. It's great when there's a warm bright day, but then I don't mind having to wrap up if it's cold. And even the grey dank days can be very atmospheric, quite unlike days at any other time of year.

Autumn is my favourite season, but all four seasons have their good points, and I love the continuous changing of the seasons. I'd hate to live somewhere where conditions are pretty much the same all year round.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I just like the seasons to be like the seasons they are supposed to be, although I have to say, I long for a winter like 1947.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

At this time of the year I usually expect it to be a bit colder, it just seems incredibly mild. The leaves are all over the floor but it's missing that Autumn feel for me because of the temperature. I do miss that.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

A lot of this may depend on where you live but, almost by definition, autumn, like spring is a season of change - warm today, cold tomorrow - and often unpredictable in UK. Indeed, the one think I dislike about this time of year is knowing what to wear - a shirt (and then get cold), a jumper (and sweat profusely).
... but, as I recall, this has always been the case with October - sunny days (the famous 'Indian Summer') followed by threats of snow.

I certainly didn't appreciate the weather today - nor the weather forecast - took a day of for the home business, theatre, dinner out yesterday looking forweard to a good walk today .... only to wake up to drizzle - eventually made it to the moors and saw a few interesting things when the mist parted would rather have had a cold, clear or sunny, warm day - better than this typical(?) autumn weather! Yes, I know what you mean but with climate change things will get more and more unpredictable so for walking and insect-watching, give me warm, still sunshine!

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

Does anyone remember snow in southern England. When I was at school in the 70s/80s Cornwall and Kent were always being cut off from the rest of the country and we were regularly sent home from school because the boiler had packed in. Then there was the famous battle of 1985 when virtually the entire 4th and 5th years took on the lower and upper 6th forms in a pitched snowball battle on the playing field between our respective school blocks. Woe betide if the oppostion caught you and shoved snow down your shirt. Happy days.

Cheers,

Adam

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

The Midlands were the same as well Adam. By the mid 80's I was at university but in school in the 70's there were a lot of times when the school was closed due to 'real' snowfall with the fuel delivery not being able to get though for the boilers. Snow that fell heavily and lasted for a few days.

Lots of memories there of walking to school with the snow ploughed to my head height as a child either side of the roads. Lots of memories too of my parents having to really shove the front door hard to get it open due to snow fall infront of it and of massive icicles hanging off the front porch and those wonderful leaf paterns of frost on my bedroom window (no central heating for us then!).

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I think the most beautiful time of year is Autumn, when it's a cold, but sunny day and the trees are a mixture of golds and reds and the contrast of them against the blue sky is just lovely. The autumns are definitely milder nowadays.

Re: Do you miss colder autumns?

I found it a bit fresh this morning...I enjoyed myself out with my dog Jazz. Wearing my coat and wellies (plus undies of course.). found it most enjoyable walking in the park kicking my way through the leaves..It made me feel like a kid again..
As long as it stays dry the cold and wind dont seem to bother me ..as long as you are wrapped up ..just enjoy the time and have fun ..thats what i say .

I would like colder days instead of these unhealthy warm damp days
Give me my seasons back
