| | | What chance an Indian Summer? I vaguely recall reading that someone had predicted a very wet summer, because the unusually dry and warm weather in April had indicated a very unusual weather pattern. Can anyone confirm this, and more importantly, does such a pattern indicate whether or not we are likely to have an 'Indian Summer' this year?
Pete (desparately hoping for some better walking weather later in the year!) |

It's been nice settled weather here too, and looks like its going to stay that way for at least 4-5 more days according to the BBC weather site.
Means I should get my usual 2 or 3 walks per week in, so I'll be walking down your way again in a couple of weeks or so, as I'm following the Swan's Way long distance bridleway which goes just north of Ewelme and ends in Goring. I'm looking forward to seeing all the Red Kites again!

| | | Re: What chance an Indian Summer? Well, it looks like we're having an Indian Summer now! The weather has been great this last week, and the dry spell looks like continuing next week.
There was an interesting article in Saturday's Daily Telegraph by Philip Eden, their weather expert, about Indian Summers. Nothing to do with India (as I thought), it comes from the Native Americans - when Europeans first settled in North America, they found the 'Indians' relied on a good settled period in October/November to finish getting their harvest in, apparently. |

You learn something new everyday.

| | | Re: What chance an Indian Summer? What about St.Lukes little summer?
I was told about this by an old man,who said it was a little warm period, after the end of an indian summer, just when we'd given up.No one else seems to have heard about it,maybe the old boy was potty!I even asked a clergyman, that I knew well, about it,but he said something rude, and laughed ,bobbo | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
