| | | Storms and insects Just thought I'd post something I've noticed, I've lived on the Isle of Wight for just over a year, and have seen a few amazing electrical storms. Now I'm very interested in insects especially moths and regularly run a light trap. Before a decent storm I seem to get an incredible amount of fly activity,( I've predicted storms by this) I wondered if there was a scientific explaination.

| | | Re: Storms and insects I believe insects drop to a lower altitude in advance of a storm, you often notice the swifts and swallows are suddenly much lower than they normally are when they feed on the insects. I've found this to be a reliable indicator of a storm. I'm not entirely clear on the scientific explanation for this though...
