Thundery Activity

I've been keeping an eye on the Lightning detector during the past couple of hours and it's looking very interesting indeed.

Be warned there is major thundery activity on the cards this evening for many!

Watch out for some big storms with very heavy rain, local flooding possible.

Enjoy the spectacle!

I haven't seen a 'good' thunderstorm for months now so I'm hoping that we'll see some of it here. I'm one of those who likes watching the lightning from the window, although, I doubt my dogs will enjoy it
It's certainly got very windy and quite dark in the last half hour or so.

Re: Thundery Activity

The sky is darkening here. The distant rumbles of thunder are to be heard. The atmosphere is oppressive and hangs like a stiffling cloak.

Bring it on! Wha hoo!

Hi, what do you mean by 'the lightning detector', sounds interesting or are you refering to the internet

Cheers Karl

Storms now stopped as quickly as it started. Was a good'un tho, just a shame it was daylight so we couldn't see the lightning

Perhaps I should have described it as a "Storm Tracker".

See here: Live storm data from Newport, Isle of Wight from a Boltek StormTracker lightning detector

Re: Thundery Activity

We had almost an hour's worth here, some serious lightning and flooded roads. within ten minutes of it passing over though it's really brightened up.

Hiya!
Should have kept the big one shut! No sooner had I posted than everything went black, the wind went crazy and we had an incredible storm. It only lasted for about fifteen minutes but it was incredibly intense!

All the very best,
WW

Re: Thundery Activity

We had a bad storm on the Norfolk Coast earlier, stupidly loud. It lasted about nearly 2 hours as well

Re: Thundery Activity

I was hoping for a storm this afternoon (03/07) but unfortunatly only a bit of rain. The storms always seem to pass around us here (east herts) which got me thinking why are some areas of the country more susceptible to storms then other parts? London, the midlands and essex for example always get them. I can always hear the thunder but we never get any. Is it the lie of the land?

The last storm we had was a good 3 weeks ago and I was at work at the time

D.

We have a good thunderstorm here in London at the moment, and I was surprised to see large hailstones for a few minutes.

Re: Thundery Activity

I was standing under a tree 30mins ago when I saw lightning and heard very loud thunder less than a second after. Needless to say I ran for cover under a building - and had to change my underware!

Re: Thundery Activity

We had enormous bangs and heavy, driving rain for around 10 minutes earlier this evening.

Spectacular stuff but all is quiet and peaceful outside now.

Here's a couple of photos of the storm front passing over Belvedere in north-west Kent that evening (03/07/07)...

We had lightning close enough to generate static sparks inside the house. Fortunately no damage to property or equipment although my wife did send me out in it to "make sure the roof's not on fire"!

Nice rainbow when it passed over...
