| | | Re: Wild Britain Ray Mears My mate Ed, who I believe knows him personally, and who recently walked the length of the Amazon rates Ray as very good at his craft and as a thoroughly nice bloke too. I think Ed is a good judge of character

I'll 'nail my colours to the mast' and state that IMHO he may be a nice bloke with lots of outdoor knowledge, but he seems to me too overweight and 'soft' looking to do much hard outdoor trekking. Also, from the way he carries it on camera, I suspect his rucksack is stuffed with foam or similar. It's not a matter of strength - a heavy rucksack tends to dominate your movement such that it shows.

| | | Re: Wild Britain Ray Mears I think one of my dream programmes would be "Wild food, Ray Mears grills Bear Grylls". Also, lets face it, these programmes are entertainment on a slight level of fantasy. He makes his subject live, and he also gives a historic framework to many of his travels.

| | | Re: Wild Britain Ray Mears I like him and I like his presenting style I personally don't take to Alex Jones and thats the thing - its personal likes and dislikes - it doesn't make Alex a rotten person - its just I don't think I would get on with her (and she would probably not understand or get on with me!). People are individual and your ability to attract and repel is different and individual - there is no wrong or right in this - its how humans are made.
Stuff filmed for television is just that - its created - the situation and the thing you want to show is stage managed to a greater or lesser degree. Presenting is acting in order to show or tell the story. What the presenter does when they are actually doing something without a camera there is natural and unscripted and they may be good at it or lousy at it - just like the rest of us!
As for weight - speaking as someone who is overweight in the same chunky way - I can state that altho its a nuisance having a big belly - if you're unfortunate enough to have one you have to live with it and it either prevents you from doing something - or you (read I!) get out of breath and very unattractive looking trying to do something with my belly calling the shots! It doesn't stop me from carrying a very heavy pack (it does give me a bad back!) and my weight doesn't stop me from walking when I really want to go somewhere - it does give me knee strain and cause my arches to fall and ache like blazes! So don't judge us lumps of lard cos its surprising what we can do when we want to! And I have just lost a stone and three quarters during this latest illness but getting weight off is not easy for everyone and some peoples 'template' is not thin and rangy ...........
