My water voles on 'Saving Species'

So excited to be interviewed by Sarah Pitt for the new Radio 4 series of Saving Species. Thank God the voles put in an actual appearance (though we had to wait an hour!)

Back in the dim and distant past I was interviewed for the radio (by Calvin Boot I think but I couldn't swear to that now) about the Chequered Skipper work I was doing. But it was all edited out

in favour of the much more eloquent Butterfly Conservation representative, Linda Barnet. So, my claim to fame is a non-speaking part on the radio

Thanks. It will only be five mins long, and I bet 4 mins of that are me and the presenter going "Aw!!! Bless!!!" at the baby water vole which swam past.

LOL! I've been there too. Interviewed about problems with the sludge powered generator at Crossness that were making life hell for the local community but I, too, ended up on the cutting room floor.

Sounds like it'll be a good one VW - I'll listen out for it.

Only this spring we had the BBC come and outline a spot for Countryfile regarding our use of cattle to manage the nature reserve. It took a whole morning of interviewing and getting the right people to the right places, and then we had an email a day later saying they weren't going with it. Can be frustrating but I suppose it's part of the job.

Here we are: BBC - BBC Radio 4 Programmes - Saving Species, Series 2, Episode 17 16 minutes in. (And yeah, I know I made an error when I said 2 weeks not 3 - pure nerves!)

I just wish there was a video as well! I`ve seen Water Voles at Cromford & they were beautiful & they let us watch them for a good while. I must get back there next year

I think unfortunately there's been a crash in the population at Cromford due to repair works on the canal. But the man I was speaking to about it last week said he felt there was a strong chance of recovery this year once the works had finished.
