I recently wrote a concise history of the Volks Wagen and the original car was designed by Dr Ferdinand Porsche (yes, Porsche cars) for Mr Hitler. Its shape apparently reminded Adolf of a particular beetle from his boyhood countryside. | I have one of Hitler's cars (not literally his!)

Nige | ....A very very good Bavarian friend of mine's father was one of Hitler's drivers during WW2. He had been a professional racing mechanic and was known as a good driver. It wasn't a job he had a lot of choice about and it would have been considered more than rude to have said no!
