Just watched the programme. Its upsetting to see so much fish wasted. Things have to be changed. |

Hopefully people can now appreciate how much prime fish is being dumped, when they have seen the amount wasted from just one vessel's haul. |

Yes i knew about the wastage but had thought it was just unwanted species (which is bad enough unless the fish are alive)not also prime example of that which can be fished elsewhere!! Awful....

The problem we'll have I think is not so much our own government, but the foreigners in Brussels, and they don't seem to let common sense get in the way when it comes to making laws. |

Awful.... | I think this is what is not clear to most people Jill. The quota system appears to the general public as a way to conserve vulnerable species , which it isn't.
As was shown last night, it only means that the cod can't be landed and sold when they have reached their quota and must go back.They are all dead too (species with swim bladders) mainly because of the quick pressure change they go through when brought up from the depths.Such as the skate we saw went back alive & OK.
I think maybe a lot of people thought that many of the fish could be sent back alive.
