Jim | At the start of his article he was leaning against the gate. If you watch carefully you will see that the gate was already unlatched and open. He just pulls the gate open and walks through. It was probably done like that so that his piece to camera didn't involve him having to open and close the gate catch. |

| | | Re: Springwatch Special and Polar Bears I really enjoyed the 'Polar Bear - Spy on the ice' - programme. Some excellent footage but I thought the narrative was rather over dramatised at times (an increasingly common feature of wildlife films these days) and there were some continuity issues. For instance, when the mother and two cubs were feeding on the seal caught earlier by the male and were then allegedly disturbed by the male, where did all the blood from their faces go as they stood up? Here again, this seems to be an attempt to over dramatise the situation but there's surely no need for such 'artistic licence' when filming these magnificent and eminently watchable creatures.

| | | Re: Springwatch Special and Polar Bears I enjoyed the Polar Bear movie too. Shame they didn't ever linger on the Ivory Gulls feeding on the carcasses too + also quite a few glimpses of Glaucous Gulls. |

It's lovely to see people so knowledgeable and passionate about their subject and to see that even they are still learning. I wondered at the time if the dragonfly had deliberately dived into the water or if it was an accident so it was nice to see Rory wondering the same thing.
Only watched the first 45 mins so far - will try and finish it tomorrow.

| | | Re: Springwatch Special and Polar Bears I really enjoyed the Spring/Autumnwatch special: the commentary was good, the footage excellent and a real uplift in the dark mid winter. The filming as always the star of the show - camerafolk getting the shots of lifetimes - I grin everytime I see marvellous footage - I can 'hear' that camerapersons heart rocketing as he/she gets something unrivalled ...... 'its in the bag, its in the bag, oh please be in the bag'!!!
The polar bear one was fantastic filming too and the quality in HD on the telly upstairs was 'hair perfect' .... I just wish they would stop with the daft storyline ...... perhaps I should have watched with the sound down |

| | | Re: Springwatch Special and Polar Bears I saw Spring/Autumnwatch in fits & starts.
It made me long for the buds to appear & for wildlife to emerge.
The Polar Bear programme was great!
The footage from their 'cool' named cams (which now escape me) was just amazing!
I haven't enjoyed a wildlife programme this much in a long time!
It even had my 9 year old Daughter glued to the telly!
Although she did wince at the bears feeding.
Brilliant stuff!
